Flower Care

See below for our 6 handy tips to help your flowers bloom for longer (Your welcome, flower lovers!)
TIP 1: TRIM FLOWER STEMS
Prior to first placing your flowers into clean water, always re cut the stems between 1-2 cm on an angle with a squeaky clean and sharp pair of scissors or secateurs.
Note: We cut at an angle because the more surface area on the stem, the more water the flower stem can “drink” up. We recut the stem because it removes any blockages caused by dirty water or drying, and allows a free path for water to soak up and dehydrate your blooms.

TIP 2: REMOVE UNNECESSARY FOLIAGE
Remove any foliage that sit below your water level, to prevent bacteria entering the water and spoiling your flowers.
Note: We do this because any form of bacteria reduces the life of your flowers, and therefore only stems should be touching the water.

TIP 3: FEED YOUR FLOWERS
There are some products available that your flowers will love because they are packed full of delicious nutrients. An effective alternative that was recommended to us by one of the leading native flower growers in the Adelaide Hills is a natural, non-expensive alternative. We love sharing the love, so here’s the recipe.
-
For flower longevity add to large vase of water approx.
-
1 teaspoon white vinegar
-
3/4 teaspoon white king
-
1 teaspoon white sugar

TIP 4: THINK ABOUT WHERE YOUR FLOWERS WILL THRIVE
Lets face it, flowers look amazing wherever they are put. However, some places they will love more than others. Where possible, position your blooms away from droughts, direct heat or sunlight.

TIP 5: CLEAN WATER OFTEN
Now this is where many of us come a little unstuck because life happens, and days are busy. But your flowers are not too dissimilar than yourself, they require water and they like it clean. If the water becomes cloudy and you would not want to take a sip, then that means your flowers are not thriving on the hydration either. Take a few minutes to repeat the above steps and trust us, your flowers will show you their appreciation!

TIP 6: REMOVE SPENT BLOOMS
Here at Botanical love, we do our very best to use mainly long-lasting blooms and we buy fresh from our wholesalers to ensure a quality product. However, just like in nature, your flowers will naturally blossom and wilt at different times. When any of the petals wilt, pick them out of the bunch so they don’t spoil the rest.

We hope this has been helpful. Enjoy!
